In the US, with recent FDA approval being granted for Pfizer’s Covid vaccine, employers are now mandating the need to be vaccinated before returning to the workplace premises. Companies such as Microsoft, Facebook, Google, Lyft CNN have made it a requirement that you must be vaccinated before returning to work.
Currently, in Ireland, employers are not entitled to ask an employee if they have been vaccinated due to the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) which protects the right to private life.
However, just recently a European court has dismissed a complaint by French firefighters who complained that mandatory vaccinations violated their privacy rights, citing that the complaint fell outside of the court’s scope. Will this dismissal see a move towards European Employers mandating vaccinations?
